“If your home is designed for indoor-outdoor living especially, it can be nice to have some material overlap between them for continuity,” says Adnan Anwar, the founder of Adnan Anwar Design. Designer Stephanie Hatten updated the Gatehouse Kitchen, turning it into an airy English-country-inspired space. An eye-catching natural stone by Walker Zanger was selected for the counters and backsplash, and the space was outfitted with the latest Monogram appliances. Bursts of hot pink and apple green energize Steven Cordrey’s design for the home’s veranda. Hand-beaded light fixtures illuminate the seating areas, which feature tables and chairs from Janus et Cie’s Amalfi Coast outdoor collection.

Prior to joining Avenue Interior Design, Pranav worked with several nationally recognized interior design firms for powerhouse clients including Ritz-Carlton, Caesars Entertainment, Marriott and Hilton. He has successfully designed, managed and installed more than 50 hospitality projects and 20 high-end residential projects throughout the world. Extensive travel and study abroad experiences ignited her inherent creative interests and ultimately solidified her career path in interior design. Upon graduating from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a degree in Interior Design, Andrea relocated to Los Angeles to practice Hospitality Interior Design at various notable firms throughout the city. Over the years she has enjoyed a wide variety of practice areas including gaming venues, public spaces, restaurants and nightclubs, and her earliest experiences included many projects in the high-end residential market.

Hammer and Spear were launched in 2013 and it comprises a team of passionate and dedicated designers and architects who display their love for aesthetic pleasure. Perfectly located in a historic brick building, right in the heart of the Arts District, they are willing to help you create the dream home you’ve always wanted. An office space in the Gatehouse is now a soothing spa-inspired lounge designed by Margaret Lalikian. Being tea lovers, we decided to order their sparkling white tea and their hot black tea. The white tea tasted as clear as it looked and was extremely refreshing while basking in the sunlight. Their black tea had a slight smoky flavor to it that added to its intensity and reminded me of a smoky Russian tea.

This charming Historic Filipinotown café offers all-day fare that's worth lingering over—already an easy feat, given the free Wi-Fi and creative coffee there, too. Our goal is to produce nuanced, complex, and clean coffee while cultivating relationships with the farms. These relationships are rooted in understanding, knowledge, skill, service and mutual respect. We shoot for the stars when curating our menu, searching for the best coffees available at any given time, setting the expectations extremely high. We specialize in strong relationships with the farms, traveling around the world to find the right beans from the right farms to get the right coffee. Passion House moved its roastery operations to the East Garfield Park building in 2019 from the Near West Side with plans to open a cafe on the north side of the 25,000-square-foot warehouse. Backline is a 501(c)(3) national non-profit that connects music industry professionals and their families with mental health and wellness resources.

I’d like to say I turn off, but I’m not sure I can say that honestly, and though sometimes it’s exhausting, the wheel is turning and it doesn’t seem to ever slow down. Passion House opened its first cafe in 2017 in Logan Square.
